Balloch paddle steamer Maid of the Loch set to open this weekend

The world famous Balloch paddle steamer Maid of the Loch is set to reopen this weekend.

Maid of the Loch will reopen at Balloch Pier on Good Friday, April 19, with its traditional Easter Egg Hunt taking place that weekend.

A £950,000 cash injection from the Scottish Government has meant that the newly refurbished tearoom will also open its doors, with guided tours of the ship and Balloch Steam Slipway also on offer.

The renovation works are still in progress, with visitors able to learn how the vessel is being restored it to its original 1950's style.

The works include the refurbished promenade deck saloon, which is due to be completed at the end of the June and will serve a dual purpose as an education facility for school visits and as a small function/event suite.

The Queens’ Lounge at the stern is also currently undergoing strengthening and upgrading works to make it fit for purpose for larger events and functions, while a lift will be fitted to provide assistance between decks.

A major feature will be to get the Maid of the Loch's steam engines operating again. New pipework is being manufactured and will be fitted next month. It is planned to have her engines turning over slowly by the end of June.

From Easter weekend, Maid of the Loch will open every day until the end of October.

Opening hours and any closures due to works on the ship will be publicised on the  website .
