Balloch motorists facing SIX MONTHS of disruption

Major £3.6million works have been revealed for a bridge in Balloch which is likely to lead to SIX MONTHS of disruption.

West Dunbartonshire Council looks set to award a contract tomorrow (Wednesday) to Balfour Beatty Civil to carry out a replacement of the deck on Lomond Bridge.

Chiefs say wear and tear have left the concrete deck on the A811 in poor condition.

Works are scheduled to begin in October this year and are estimated to finish in April.

A council spokeswoman said: “We are investing £3.6m to complete a replacement of the bridge deck following an inspection which established the deck was in poor condition and has to be replaced.

“The commitment in 2013 was for maintenance and painting works to be undertaken.

“The bridge deck below the carriageway surface is made of reinforced concrete and wear and tear combined with weathering over a number of years has resulted in deterioration of this concrete.

“The works are planned to begin in October this year and are estimated to be completed by the end of April.”

Members of the tendering committee are being asked to agree to the contract today.

Chiefs say Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering Ltd was the most economically advantageous tenderer.

The budget of £3.6m for the replacement of the bridge deck and associated works was approved within the council’s 10-year capital plan in February 2013.
