Ballet dancers from world-renowned companies to perform Swan Lake in their bathtubs

World-renowned ballet dancers will swap the stage for the bathtub in a new short film for the BBC.

Choreographer Corey Baker has been commissioned to create Swan Lake Bath Ballet, which will see the dancers perform a new version of the ballet in their own filled tubs at home.

The three minute film, set to Tchaikovsky’s famous score, will be screened as part of the BBC’s Culture in Quarantine programming.

The dancers taking part have not yet been announced, but they all come from globally recognised companies, and have filmed their performances on their phones.

New Zealand-born Baker performed in British dance company BalletBoyz before setting up Corey Baker Dance.

The bathtub ballet was announced among a number of upcoming dance shows added to BBC Culture in Quarantine, including Mimbre’s short film the Sofa Dance about the time we spend on the sofa in lockdown, BirdGang Ltd’s Flying Home which explores self-isolation through hip-hop and Somina “Mena” Fombo’s Home Carnival, an exploration of carnival culture in the UK, led by Precious Onyenekwu Tata.
