Balhousie Care Group bucks trend to achieve zero per cent gender pay gap

One Scottish company is bucking the trend by reporting a zero per cent gender pay gap.

The Balhousie Care Group employs 1400 people across 25 care homes notched up a pay gap that is significantly different from the UK average of gender pay gap of 18 per cent.

The firm's gender pay gap report is significantly better than its previous year's figure where the gap was 1.6 per cent.

Many companies report growing gender pay gap as Government deadline passes

However, we are looking at a business, which has a workforce that is 88.6 per cent female and only 11.4 per cent male.

Balhousie was one of thousands of the UK’s larger employers who published their gender pay gap figures last week to reveal the difference between the average hourly earnings for men and women.

A quarter of firms reported a pay gap of more than 20 per cent in favour of men, and the gender pay gap shrunk only slightly, from 9.7 per cent to 9.6 per cent.

Fewer than half (45 per cent) of companies succeeded in narrowing their gender pay gap.

There is no quick fix to to reducing the gender pay gap... it will take time and patience

Gale McIntyre, head of performance and improvement at the business, said: “Balhousie Care Group’s latest gender pay gap report shows no difference in average hourly earnings for men and women.

“You can’t get better than that, especially taking into account the national results on gender and pay, which show the gap widening in favour of men. “We employ a higher percentage of female colleagues overall in our organisation but we employ males and females at every level.

“This latest report is an excellent achievement and proof once more that Balhousie Care Group is a committed equal opportunities employer.”
