Bale, Reguilon and Ndombele - Tottenham injury news and return dates ahead of Leyton Orient tie

Tottenham Hotspur are up and running in 2020/21 Premier League season thanks to a 5-2 win over Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

Inspired by Son Heung-min and Harry Kane at St Mary's, Spurs have bounced back from the 1-0 opening weekend defeat by Everton to record back-to-back wins across two competitions in the space of three days.

Next up is a Carabao Cup third-round tie away at Leyton Orient, although the tie is in danger of not going ahead after the League Two side confirmed that a number of their players have tested positive for Covid-19

Rob Guest looks back at Tottenham's 5-2 win at Southampton

"Following our game on Saturday 19th September, COVID-19 testing was conducted on all of our first-team playing squad," a statement on the club's official website reads. "Today (Monday 21st) we received formal confirmation which shows that a number of our first-team squad have tested positive for COVID-19.

"We have informed the EFL and Tottenham Hotspur and will make a further announcement regarding Tuesday’s match shortly.

"We have also informed Mansfield Town, Plymouth Argyle and Oldham Athletic, our three most recent opponents, prior to the public release of this information.

"Leyton Orient’s priority is the health and well-being of its players and staff. Those who have tested positive will now strictly follow government self-isolation guidelines.

"The Breyer Group Stadium and training ground facilities will be closed until further notice. At this time, the club will make no further comment."

But if the game does go ahead, who is a doubt and who is out of the Carabao Cup tie? Well, according to Premier Injuries, Spurs have two players in the treatment room - young defender Japhet Tanganga and Gareth Bale.

In terms of the former, there is currently no return date set for him as he recovers from a thigh problem.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is in the dark over when Bale will return to fitness.

"I don't know when Gareth can be back. The only thing I know is that his motivation is high," he said. "He's so happy to be with the club of his heart, he's so happy to play for us. And when a player has this motivation, many times you can shorten the period of recovery, you can shorten the period of getting fit and ready to play.

"We want to help him so when he's available to train with the team, we're more than happy to have him and help him back to a level that made him one of the best players in the world."

Fellow summer signing Sergio Reguilon is unlikely to make his debut against Orient if the game goes ahead, while Tanguy Ndombele, Kane and Lucas Moura are all fine despite being substituted against the Saints.
