Baldy Breakdown: Wink Martindale will have Giants defense prepared

The New York Giants will be more aggressive on defense this season under new coordinator Wink Martindale. Fans can expect the pass rush to come from al lover the field.

Martindale is known for his ‘dial-ups’ where linebackers, safeties and cornerbacks fly around and put pressure on the opposing quarterback.

Former NFL offensive lineman turned analyst, Brian Baldinger, breaks down the ways Martindale generated pressure with his former team, the Baltimore Ravens.

The Giants parted ways with outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter, safeties Logan Ryan and Jabrill Peppers and cornerback James Bradberry. Training camp will open up many opportunities for the new bunch to grab a role in Martindale’s defensive scheme.

First-round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux should upgrade the front seven and become an immediate sack threat off the edge. He’ll be joined by second-year linebacker Azeez Ojulari. The Giants will have a slew of young defensive backs that could thrive in Martindale’s system such as Julian Love, Xavier McKinney and rookie Dane Belton.

The Giants have been in the lower half of the league in sacks the past few seasons and the change in scheme and personnel plus the mixing and matching could revive the pass rush this season.
