Baldy Breakdown: Giants offense reaches a new low

The New York Giants fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night and unlike several of their other losses this season, there were no moral victories to be found.

Moral victories aren’t victories anyway, but at least they don’t leave a completely disgusting taste in the mouth. The same could not be said in Week 11. It was vile.

Even to the naked eye and the most casual of fans, the Giants’ offense hit a new low. They scored just 10 points against a struggling defense and seven of those came after an interception set them up at the 5-yard line. Even the first three only came after a scripted opening series.

The numbers were appalling — from third-down conversions to yardage production to yards per play. Any metric you choose to use, it was embarrassing for these Giants.

The film review will and has reflected that. Just ask retired offensive lineman and current NFL analyst, Brian Baldinger.

What can even be said about the above play? The Giants are beat with a three-man rush, three of their receivers converge in the same location (even knocking each other off their routes — some of which had to be incorrect), and the outlets simply aren’t there.

It’s a failure so deep it’s almost hard to fathom.

Even the plusses weren’t really plusses. Take running back Saquon Barkley, for example. The offensive captain returned for the first time in over a month and the result was less than stellar. Some good, but mostly bad.

There was one sole positive on the night. That came courtesy of the returning Andrew Thomas. Enjoy it.

There are still eight more weeks of this to go.
