Baldy Breakdown: Giants’ Daniel Jones impresses again

New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones was far from perfect on Friday night against the Chicago Bears, losing two fumbles, including one due to a poor center-quarterback exchange.

While notching two turnovers is worthy of the criticism and something the rookie will need to correct in short order, Jones was able to rebound from those hiccups and finish the game 11-of-14 for 161 and one beautiful touchdown.

As he usually does, NFL Network’s Brian Baldinger decided to break down Jones’ film, and for the second straight week he’s come away impressed.

What more needs to be said? Jones may be a rookie, but he appears increasingly comfortable in the Giants’ offensive system and is remarkably accurate with the football. And the notion that he lacks a strong arm? Also dismissed.

Without question, Jones’ most impressive throw was his touchdown toss to wide receiver T.J. Jones. Whether the rookie gun slinger was merely going through his progressions or looking off the safety is irrelevant — it was sound, flawless quarterbacking with a dime of a throw.

“The man can throw the football,: Baldinger said.

Fellow NFL Network analyst Charley Casserly also praised Jones’ ability to go through his reads while keeping his footwork — a strength coming out of Duke — in check.

Through two preseason games, it’s clear there’s a lot to like about Jones and that he has a very bright future in the NFL.
