Baldy Breakdown: Alvin Kamara has catlike balance, reflexes

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is a special talent. He’s thrived through his first two seasons in the NFL thanks to a rare blend of athleticism and refined skills, punishing opponents from all over the field. Kamara’s exploits were highlighted by NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger, a retired offensive lineman who appeared in 149 games over his 11-year career.

“What separates (Kamara) from every other back, and every other player in the league,” Baldinger said, “is his balance. He’s got the balance of a cat on a marble table. It shows up all the time. And when he comes out of (contact) he’s as smooth as silk.”

Baldinger put together a series of Kamara’s highlights and narrated what made each play special, going as far back as a 2017 preseason game against the Cleveland Browns — one of the first times Kamara suited up in black and gold. Check it out below, or by following this link.

“This guy is a cat daddy, count ’em,” Baldinger said, tracking the number of missed tackles by Los Angeles Rams defenders against Kamara on one play. “One, two, three, four, five, seven later, the cat daddy goes down.”

Baldinger points out the versatility Kamara brings to the Saints, identifying a handful of routes he runs very well and the sheer volume of receptions (182, including the playoffs) the running back has logged in just two years. But the insane contact balance and ability to turn on a dime is what’s made Kamara such an effective runner, and Baldinger gives him props for that, too.
