Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix irons out "several crashes" Larian may or may not have accidentally introduced when fixing corrupted saves last month

Baldur's Gate 3 Karlach.

A new Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix is here, ironing out a few issues – including "several crashes" – that Larian may have accidentally introduced in its previous update, essentially turning the whole situation into a game of bug fix whack-a-mole.

In the latest patch notes on its site for hotfix 36, Larian admits: "Our last small update, which aimed to resolve corrupted savegames affecting a number of players, seemed to have also introduced some performance issues that triggered crashes."

Seemingly, that'd be from the update that rolled out last month, so it's not been too long of a wait. Even so, Larian says "thank you for your patience" while it took the time to investigate the issues, and announces its latest fix – which is going out across all platforms – and should sort them out for good, alongside "some other crashes and blockers that were still affecting players."

As well as the rather vague descriptor of "several crashes" being fixed, "a framerate drop and eventual crash when loading a savegame" has been ironed out, along with an Xbox-specific bug that saw "tooltips in the Inventory and Trade windows" not display correctly. Meanwhile, a Mac problem that could prevent you from moving past character creation "after starting a character introduction cinematic on Honour Mode" has been banished, too.

Of course, we could never expect any massive new additions to Baldur's Gate 3 at this point considering that Patch 8, which was released almost a full year ago, was set to be the final major update. After all, Larian is hard at work on Divinity, its next RPG.

Baldur's Gate 3 Shadowheart actor was "fully expecting" Larian to cut her "finger-guns" gag about deadly poison, but "it ended up being in the game."
