Baldur's Gate 3, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 actor agrees with Charlie Cox that mocap actors deserve more recognition: "It's quite hard to separate the two"

Devora Wilde has backed up her Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 co-star Charlie Cox, arguing that performance capture workers need more recognition.

A few months ago, Daredevil himself and the voice behind Expedition 33's Gustave told everyone to hold their praise and instead pass it on to the character's performance capture artist, Maxence Cazorla. "So any nomination or any credit I get, I really have to give to him, because I believe that the performance of that character is really down to him, and my voice was just part of that process," Cox said after being nominated at The Game Awards.

When asked about the subject in an interview with Radio Times Gaming, Wilde, who voiced Clea in the French RPG, agreed: "It's quite hard to separate the two and do one without the other. I mean, you couldn't do performance capture without being a trained actor and really going through the whole emotions yourself. So, yeah, I have massive respect for what they do. Just like Charlie says, they do need more recognition. It's a whole world."

She then goes on to shout out stunt performers who provide the motion capture for actions that voice actors might not be physically capable of, "like sword fights and flips." Wilde even calls out the scene where her Baldur's Gate 3 character Lae'zel, flips off a ship. "That wasn't me. Shock," she joked.

More often than not, voice actors and performance capture actors work hand-in-hand to create a character. For last year's chilling horror game Cronos: The New Dawn, Wilde detailed how her character's mocap was already done by the time she stepped into the recording booth, so she had to "create this perfect synergy" with another actor she had never met.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's beloved Esquie was pitched as being like Mulan's own lovable giant, but his actor saw another character in him: "I pictured Baymax from Big Hero 6"
