BOSTON _ The Detroit Pistons were teetering.
Against a unit of mostly Boston Celtics reserves, a 10-point lead had turned into a one-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
The TD Garden was rocking and another Pistons road collapse appeared to be in the offing.
But the Pistons answered with a 9-0 run to take control and pull out a 121-114 victory on Wednesday night.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led six Pistons in double figures with 25 points, as the Pistons (10-10) will try to complete a perfect three-game road trip at Atlanta on Friday night. They have won two straight road games after starting the season 1-8.
The Pistons shot 55.2 percent and dominated the glass by a margin of 19 (52-33). Andre Drummond controlled the paint with 20 points and 17 rebounds.
Ish Smith played possibly his best game as a Piston with 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
Tobias Harris (21 points, six rebounds) and Marcus Morris (20 points) combined for 41 points.
The starting lineup accounted for 105 of the Pistons' 121 points.
Isaiah Thomas scored 27 points for the Celtics (10-8).
After calling it a night early after being ejected from Tuesday night's victory at Charlotte, Drummond came out with tons of energy.
He swatted an early midrange jumper from ex-Piston Amir Johnson, before Johnson grabbed the carom and completed a three-point play for the first points of the game.
Drummond went for nine points and six rebounds _ three on the offensive glass _ to help the Pistons take a 31-28 lead into the second quarter.
Substitute Kelly Olynyk kept the Celtics close with 10 points in the first quarter.
The Pistons took a nine-point lead early in the second quarter at 39-30 on Aron Baynes free throws.
But Thomas scored 16 points in the first half and his consecutive three-pointers cut the Celtics' deficit to one at 53-52 at the 2:31 mark.
The Pistons closed on a 6-1 run to take a 59-53 lead into halftime.
Celtics coach Brad Stevens, one of the most aggressive coaches when it comes to intentionally fouling poor free-throw shooters, hacked Drummond twice over an 18-second span late in the half. Drummond went 2-for-4.
The Pistons made nine shots in a row at one point in the third quarter on their way to a 63.6 percent shooting quarter.
And a Jon Leuer (12 points) two-handed flush gave the Pistons a 10-point lead at 90-80 late in the third quarter.
