Balaclava thug set door of Hamilton home on fire in 'targeted attack'

A manhunt is underway after a door was set on fire in a targeted daylight attack.

Police want to trace a balaclava thug who set fire to the door of a home on Mill Road in Hamilton at around 9.10pm on Thursday.

The incident is being treated as wilful fire-raising.

The man was spotted getting out of a dark coloured Vauxhall Corsa, A3 MKS edition, setting fire to the door of the property before getting back into the vehicle and making off.

Emergency services raced to the scene to put out the blaze where nobody was injured.

The suspect is described as around 5ft 10 inches, of medium build and was wearing a blue top with red lettering or motif on the chest, blue jeans and light coloured trainers.

He had a black balaclava which he pulled down over his face after he had set fire to the door.

There were two other men within the Vauxhall Corsa at the time and officers are also carrying out enquiries to try and identify them.

Detective Constable Alan Hamilton, Cambuslang CID, said: “This was an incredibly dangerous act, which showed a complete disregard for the safety of any occupants of the house and neighbouring properties, however thankfully nobody was injured.

“We do believe this incident, which happened in daylight, was targeted.”

Police probing the blaze are asking drivers with dash-cam footage to get in touch.
