Balaclava gang target terrified old lady in her own home during broad daylight house raid

An elderly woman was restrained by a thug while his two pals ransacked her Glasgow home.

The terrifying drama unfolded yesterday, Tuesday, September 1, when she walked downstairs and discovered the yobs in her Mossbank Avenue house at 3.15pm.

Detectives say the balaclava gang searched the rooms for valuables before making off with a five-figure sum in cash and jewellery.

The men were all dressed in black and wearing balaclavas, they left the house by the rear entrance and are believed to have made off in a car on Royston Road.

The lady did not require medical treatment but she has been left badly shaken.

Police have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are reviewing available CCTV footage for any further information on the suspects.

Detective Sergeant Shona Beattie said:  “A number of very personal and treasured items of jewellery have been stolen, many of which are irreplaceable and are of great sentimental value to the owners.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area and surrounding areas of Mossbank Avenue – did you see anything suspicious, did you notice the men running away or getting into a car.

"Any small piece of information could prove vital in our enquiries.  If you have any details or hear anything regarding this crime, please do contact us.”

Call police on 101 with information, alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
