Bakrid celebrated in coastal Karnataka

MANGALURU: The heavy rain in the coastal region did not dampen Bakrid celebrations. The festival of sacrifice was celebrated with pomp and gaiety, here on Sunday. The celebrations were a low-key affair for the past two years, due to pandemic restrictions. However, this year, despite heavy rain, a large number of Muslims gathered at mosques and idgahs in the morning, and offered special prayers.

A large number of Muslims participated in the special prayers held at the Idgah Masjid at Light House Hill and Zeenath Baksh Central Jumma Masjid at Bunder. Khatib Al Haj Abul Muhammed Bakhavi led the mass prayers. At Ullal Central Jumma Masjid, Khatib Anwar Ali Darimi led the prayers. The prayers were offered at Juma Masjid, Kaprigudda; Masjid Al-Noor, Hampankatta; Moideen Juma Masjid, Kudroli; Masjid Nadupalli at Kudroli; Jamia Masjid at Kudroli; Shamir Masjid at Car Street; Mohiyudeen Juma Masjid at Bolar; Badriya Jumma Masjid at Jeppu Kudpadi; Masjid Kandathpalli; Fouziya Masjid, Police Lane; Badriya Masjid, Kandak; Kankanady Juma Masjid; Taqwa Masjid, Pumpwell and Mohiyudin Jumma Masjid, Jeppu.

After prayers, Muslims exchanged festival greetings. “The rain did not bother us much. We are happy to celebrate the festival after a gap of two years, without any restrictions,” said Aboobaker Siddik.
