Baker Mayfield: “We’re ready to move on…on both sides.”

As the Cleveland Browns await word on a potential suspension of new quarterback Deshaun Watson, the odds that their former starting quarterback could be an option for them this season appear to be near zero. According to Baker Mayfield, both he and the Browns seem ready to move on.

Speaking at his youth football camp in Norman, Oklahoma, Mayfield indicated that the Browns would need to be the party to reach out and start the process of reconciliation. “I think for that to happen there would have to be some reaching out. But we’re ready to move on, I think — on both sides.”

Mayfield also admitted to being “frustrated” with the situation, and that a trade has not already happened. Yet he is also thankful for the time he spent in Cleveland. “I’m thankful for my four years in Cleveland,” he said. “A ton of ups and downs and learning experiences I’ll forever keep with me. … The people in Cleveland, it’s a great sports town. I’m thankful for it and there’s no resentment to the city of Cleveland by any means.”

The Carolina Panthers have been mentioned as a potential landing spot, and as outlined by our own Doug Farrar, there is still a path for Mayfield to be a solid starting quarterback in the league. Whether that comes to fruition, however, remains to be seen.
