Baker Mayfield did not mince words after the Browns’ humiliating 43-13 defeat at the hands of the Tennessee Titans in the season opener. Mayfield did not play well, nor did many of his teammates.
It was a bitter disappointment. Mayfield threw three interceptions, including a pick-six late. Sensing the harsh reaction coming from critics near and far, Mayfield addressed the dismal debut in his postgame press conference.
When asked a variant of the same basic question — how will the team react to the embarrassing loss — for another time, Mayfield said:
“We’re going to throw this in the trash and that’s good. I know what type of men we have in this locker room. And quite frankly, I don’t really give a damn what happens on the outside. I know how we’re going to react. We’re gonna bounce back.”
It’s a message to his teammates to not let outside forces infiltrate and divide the locker room. He is smart enough to know they’re going to try and try again.
