Baker Mayfield says he’s got a broken humerus along with the torn labrum in his shoulder

The speculation about the severity of Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield’s injured shoulder just amped up to another level. FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reports that Mayfield has a fractured humerus bone in his left arm in addition to the torn labrum on the left (non-throwing) shoulder.

In addition, Glazer quoted Mayfield as telling him that the fractured bone is preventing him from returning to action.

“I need that fracture to heal for me to get back out there,” Glazer quotes Mayfield as saying.

The humerus is the long bone in the upper arm between the shoulder and the elbow joint. Mayfield aggravated the shoulder injury he initially suffered in Week 2 in last Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals, landing hard on the ground with his left arm extended out. He conducted his postgame press conference with his left arm in a sling.

Glazer did not reveal exactly where the fracture is on the humerus, but based on what Mayfield told him it would seem to be in the shoulder joint area.

Mayfield is out for Thursday night’s game against the visiting Denver Broncos. Case Keenum will start. If the fracture and larger shoulder injury need surgery, it could end Mayfield’s season.
