Baker Mayfield said he shaved multiple times because he ‘didn’t deserve’ his mustache

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield’s look went through quite the transformation on Sunday, and it didn’t exactly pan out the way he would have hoped.

Mayfield showed up to the Browns’ game against the Broncos with a beard. He then took the field with a Fu Manchu-esque mustache. But after the 24-19 loss in Denver, a demoralized Mayfield stepped to the podium with a traditional mustache.

Given that the former Heisman Trophy winner is very much online, he saw how NFL Twitter received his press conference appearance. After getting the full meme treatment, Mayfield finally opened up on why he shaved twice in the span of a few hours.

Mayfield said he went into the month planning to do a “Movember” with his fellow quarterbacks and sport a handlebar mustache. After the loss, he opted to scrap the handlebar idea because he “didn’t deserve it.”

Mayfield said:

“The quarterbacks had a Movember mustache. And the original thought for me, do the handlebars because I was undefeated before Sunday with the handlebar mustache, so I shaved it off because I didn’t deserve it.”

Just in the interest of accuracy, though, the ends of the mustache would have needed to curl (like a handlebar) for it to be true “handlebar” mustache. But we get what Baker meant.
