Baker Mayfield rips reporter for ‘dumbest question you could ask’

Baker Mayfield’s patience with the media — or at least one long-time sparring partner — seems to be growing thin amid the Cleveland Browns’ 2-5 start. The quarterback brought an early end to his press conference on Wednesday after growing frustrated with a reporter’s questions about a drive during the Browns’ 27-13 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 8.

“Stop saying, ‘But.’ I just told you, the clock was running and we had the penalty,” Mayfield said. “You want to give them the ball back? No. You don’t play. You don’t know. That’s just plain and simple.”

Then the reporter asked: Were you happy with that drive?

“Was I happy with that? No. We didn’t score points. That’s the dumbest question you could ask. Jesus,” Mayfield said, and left the podium.

Mayfield followed up with a few tweets after the press conference.

Mayfield is no stranger to sparring with media members. He and FOX Sports radio host Colin Cowherd have gone back and forth. Cowherd has been unjustifiably hard on Mayfield. The Browns quarterback seems hung up on those criticisms.

This spat seems to be between Mayfield and reporter and radio show host Tony Grossi. They apparently have a longstanding adversarial relationship.

The reactions varied on Mayfield’s handling of the situation. Some believed this was yet another example of his immature antics. Others felt he was justified in challenging the reporter.
