Baker Mayfield ranks dead last in passer rating under pressure

One of the great revelations Baker Mayfield provided as a rookie in Cleveland was his ability to operate under pressure. After years of wilting flowers like DeShone Kizer, Cody Kessler, Brandon Weeden and others who had no petals to their mettle, watching Mayfield operate with poise and confidence when facing a pass rush was exhilarating.

Alas, some of the petals have fallen off Mayfield’s bloom in his second season. Mayfield has struggled badly when facing pressure from the pass rush in 2019.

The blossom started to fade even at the end of last season, but it’s rotting on the vine of late. In fact, no quarterback has been worse when facing pressure over the last eight weeks, which extends to Week 16 of 2018.

It’s not even close, as tracked by NFL Inside Edge:

Simply getting back to being the Baker Mayfield we all watched thrive under pressure as a rookie starter, and at Oklahoma, will go a long way towards fixing what ails the Browns’ struggling offense after the bye week.
