Baker Mayfield harps on lack of execution by Browns offense

Baker Mayfield did not play particularly well in the Cleveland Browns’ 20-13 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Rams. The second-year QB was not pleased with his execution of the offense, or that of his supporting cast, after the game.

A sullen Mayfield addressed the poor execution during his postgame press conference.

“Just not executing,” Mayfield said, before citing a specific red zone possession where he blew an opportunity.

“I think I am going to have recurring nightmares over the throw to Demetrius (Harris) up top. I think I will be able to look at the film and know I have Jarvis (Landry) underneath,” Mayfield stated.

“Just execute. I think that is what it comes down to. Execution down there. Doing your job. We need all 11 guys doing that, and it starts with me.”

Mayfield only completed half of his 36 pass attempts and frequently fled the pocket to his right, sometimes without more than token pressure from the Rams defense. The last offensive play was a microcosm. Mayfield discussed that play, too.

“Mindset-wise right there is you have your play called. Whatever happens, you have to put it up for grabs if you do not get it out immediately. They want to double No. 13 and ended up doubling Jarvis, as well. Just at that point, just put it up and try to make a play. It is fourth down. You have to.”
