Baker Mayfield: ‘everything is not moving as fast’ in his 2nd Browns camp

Baker Mayfield is in his second training camp with the Cleveland Browns, and his circumstance has changed quite a bit. Last year at this time he was a greenhorn rookie and backing up veteran starter Tyrod Taylor under head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley.

This time around, Mayfield is the unquestioned starter and leader of the offense under coach Freddie Kitchens and coordinator Todd Monken.

Even with the radical changes, Mayfield is a lot more comfortable this time around.

“Everything is not moving as fast,” Mayfield said Thursday. “Camp moves really fast for you (as a rookie), especially at the quarterback position. There are a lot of things flying.”

One of the big changes for Mayfield has been handling the increased responsibility, He feels like he’s got a good grasp on the balance needed between being the leader and still having some fun.

“I think I had to grow up fast, just being in the spotlight, having to play early in college and then also just having to deal with media early on,” Mayfield said. “I think you learn how you need to conduct yourself. Not that I have been perfect by any means, I am definitely not saying that, (but) having to deal with it early on.”

Mayfield and the rest of the Browns take to the practice field again on Friday morning.
