Baker Mayfield called out the ‘bad’ officiating after the Browns’ loss to the Seahawks

The Cleveland Browns dropped to 2-4 on the season after losing Sunday’s game to the Seattle Seahawks. It was a game where Baker Mayfield’s turnover struggles continued with three more interceptions, but the Browns quarterback was particularly irritated with the game’s officiating.

Speaking to reporters after the 32-28 loss, Mayfield acknowledged that he would likely face a fine before going on to complain about the refs.

He said via Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan:

“The refs are never an excuse. I’ll probably get fined for this, but they were pretty bad today … It ticks me off.”

Notably, the Browns were called for a blindside block penalty on Jarvis Landry that wasn’t a blindside at all.

The Browns were penalized nine times for 83 yards. In a four-point game, frequent penalties can make a difference. Yet, the Seahawks were penalized 10 times. It wasn’t one-sided against Cleveland.

The three interceptions obviously had a bigger impact than any single call.
