Bake Off star's brother launches Birmingham café

A new café has been launched in Birmingham by the younger brother of a Great British Bake Off finalist.

Asim Imdad is behind De La Crèm which has opened in Temple Row despite the national lockdown.

Mr Imdad is the younger brother Ali Imdad who runs Cocoa by Ali in the Mailbox and appeared on the hit BBC show in 2013.

He said: "To be honest, I've been surprised. We've been performing quite well even though we're in a lockdown as we're on a main walkway through the central business district, with a metro stop outside, so for those still venturing out for essential travel or business, they're still dropping in and seeing what's new.

"We're hoping to start deliveries soon too so both the office and residential community within the city can benefit from our new offering."

De La Crèm has taken a five-year lease at 4 Temple Row which is owned by Nurton Developments.

Asset manager Rupert Young added: "We're always pleased to be nurturing young businesses and particularly post pandemic, it's reassuring to see new talent determined to still make a go of it."
