Bake Off star Prue Leith shares her 'horrific' experience of getting high on acid

Great British Bake Off star Prue Leith has opened up about the horrendous experience she had after taking LSD.

The wholesome looking 80-year-old TV star has been open about her wild past – in interviews and in her eye opening 2017 autobiography, Relish: My Life On A Plate.

Now in a new interview, the star has gone in to startling detail about the bad experience she had after taking acid with her first husband, writer Rayne Kruger.

Prue paints her bad trip experience during a chat with politician Ruth Davidson that is due to air on LBC tonight.

The star explains that her acid trip was a one off as she advanced from smoking marijuana.

The Sun on Sunday quotes her saying: “It was the Sixties, there was a lot of drugs around. We used to smoke a bit of pot, not all the time and not a lot, but we did.

"And one day, we did take acid, only once, and I must tell you, it was the most appalling experience I’ve ever had.

“I had absolute horrific hallucinations. I couldn’t look at him because he turned into a kind of monster, and my arms, the flesh dripped off them. There was just bones left.

Prue said she experimented with the drug with her late husband, Rayne Kruger (Prue Leith)

And it seems the experience had a lasting impact – as Prue claims she had bad dreams due to her trip for years after.

She claimed: “I’d have nightmares. And when I woke up, nothing would look like I knew it ought to look.

“It would be wobbly or strange or growing and sinking and shrinking and expanding.

"And right until my, I suppose, sixties, I would still sometimes wake up in the night and I felt I could see the air, you know?

“It was almost patterned, like little squares or pixels.”

The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 on Tuesday at 8pm.
