Bake Off star Luis Troyano dies from cancer aged 48 leaving fans devastated

Devastated Great British Bake Off fans have flooded social media with tributes to contestant Luis Troyano after his death aged 48.

Luis, who was runner up on the show in 2014, passed away last week, his agent Anne Kibel confirmed.

In a statement she wrote: "Sadly, my lovely client lost his brave fight against Oesophageal cancer last week.

"A fantastic man with a love of baking that saw him get to the finals of GBBO, write a wonderful book, Bake It Great and do so much more. Always in our thoughts."

Luis became a big fan favourite on his way to finishing second to winner Nancy Birtwhistle on the show six years ago and went onto appear on BBC Good Food and BBC Breakfast shows as well as releasing his own book Bake it Great.

Upset viewers have filled Twitter with tributes to Luis. One tweeted: "Oh Luis, the joy he brought to the bake off his cocktail doughnuts and is why he remains one of my all time favourite contestants. So sad to hear this today," and another reacted: "Oh my word, what a shock reading that.

"He seemed such a lovely man on bake off & I followed his recipes and knee he’d been unwell but hadn’t realised he’d died.

"So desperately sorry for everyone who knew him. He was always respectful & a gentleman. God Bless Luis and thank you."

A third posted: "I loved Luis on Bake Off. What sad news!"
