Bake Off star calls show 'intense & scary' after anxiety attack during challenge

Great British Bake Off contestant Michael Chakraverty has opened up about his anxiety battle after he broke down on the show this week.

The 26-year-old star faced a hard time on Tuesday night's episode after experiencing a panic attack during week five's technical challenge.

But the baker took to Twitter to encourage others with anxiety to speak out after watching the emotional scenes back.

He wrote: "Hey kids, let's talk about anxiety. watching last night's episode was uncomfortable but mainly it showed me that I can do things even though (and especially when) I think I can't.

"Please know there's always a way past, through or around the shadow. there is always someone who will listen and you are always stronger than you think."

Michael gushed over his co-stars in the last tweet as he talked about how supportive they have been on the Channel 4 show.

He continued: "Bake Off is the most intense, incredible and scary thing I've ever done.

"I met 12 wonderful bakers who listened, understood and encouraged - and that doesn't even include the most kind and supportive team off camera."

GBBO fans tweeted support back to the star following his tough time.

One fan of the show wrote: "I will forever stan a man who is able to verbalise emotions & reframe what can be a pretty negative experience into a learning one AND also have a laugh at the end of all of that."

"thank you so much for speaking out just for getting through the challenge, you are my star baker!!!" confessed another.

"Well done for hanging in there" said a third.

Fellow bakers from the show also poured in with lovely comments to the star including Rose Brandreth-Poynter and Tom Hetherington from the 2017 series who said: "You know my feelings on this you BEAUT."

It came as the bakers were tasked with creating beignet soufflés for the technical challenge.

However, Michael's weren't raising properly and he ended up in tears as he said: "I can't do this anymore."

After his break down, the star received some comforting from presenter Noel Fielding and was back to it.
