Bake Off's Prue hit with backlash over 'feminine side' comment to male contestant

Prue Leith was hit by a wave of backlash this evening after telling a male contestant that he was "getting in touch with his feminine side" by making baby cakes on Bake Off this evening.

This evening, the bakers were tasked with creating a 'kawaii' showstopper during Japanese Week.

Mark Lutton, 27, revealed that he would be creating avocado cakes.

He also revealed that the stone of one of the avocado halves would be tempered chocolate and filled with baby avocados.

"Wow," Paul responded.

While Prue quipped with a laugh: "It seems like you're getting in touch with your feminine side!"

But some viewers did not take kindly to Prue's lighthearted comment and flocked to Twitter to comment.

One wrote: "Yes Prue. Because babies are completely a woman thing, men shouldn't have anything to do with them at all. Baby avocados, how feminine! F***ing hell."

A third fumed: "How tf is a baby avocado feminine Prue #GBBO."

"Prues comment made me wanna die “getting in touch with your feminine side - little baby avacadoes”. F*** off prue #GBBO it is literally meant to be kawaii like it’s not feminine it’s just cute f*** off," another raged.

One seethed: "Did Prue for real, in the year of our lord 2020, suggest that Mark L was “getting in touch with his feminine side” because he was making avocado cake babies? #GBBO."

This wasn't the only criticism aimed at Bake Off this evening.

Fans also slammed the show's depiction of Japanese culture with its themed week.
