Bake Off's Priya O'Shea landed chance to become published author months before show

The Great British Bake Off 's Priya O'Shea landed the chance to become a published author months before joining the show.

Back in December, the contestant took to Instagram to tell her followers the exciting news.

Priya was one of nine new writers selected by famous publishers Penguin to join their WriteNow mentoring programme.

That meant she had the opportunity to see her work end up on bookshelves.

Sharing the news, she said: "Even with THE Penguin on top of my head, I still can’t believe it. When I started writing I couldn’t have imagined this. I am ridiculously excited. What an opportunity! @penguinrandomhouse@penguinukbooks #writenowlive #writersofinstagram Link in bio!"

The Penguin website shares detail about Priya and her book, The Good Indian Girl's Cooking School.

The story follows "a group of young British Asian women (who are not particularly interested in cooking) and their adventures at a cooking school".

The description goes on: "What starts off as lessons in making traditional curries to impress any potential suitor, quickly turns into something much more.

"The women face difficult decisions about what is expected of them and what they want for themselves."

COULD THIS BE PAUL HOLLYWOOD'S LAST SEASON? BAKER APPEARS IN 2019 TRAILER TEASE

The revelation comes after Bake Off winner John Thwaite said his life was "derailed" after winning the show in 2012.

In an article for The Daily Telegraph , John says he was swamped with career and financial opportunities after his win.

John opened up about what it was like to be offered a six-figure publishing deal when he was just 23.

But he says the interest in him quickly died down when a new Bake Off winner came along the following year.

It was exciting news for her (priyaoshea/Instagram)

"Year on year, the working days became smaller and financial offers were smaller. The life to which I had become accustomed slowly dissolved," he said.

John admitted there had been days when he wished he'd never won the show and that he was drinking too much and making poor choices on social media.

The baker later found a smaller publisher who was happy to let him focus on the food, rather than the celebrity.

And he said if he could do it all over again he wouldn't let the show change who he is.

He said: "Most importantly don't let yourself be diluted by it all.

"The person you were before the show is the best version of you; that's the person you were always supposed to be."
