Bake Off's Lizzie eliminated during tough quarter-final after 'tie' with Crystelle

Great British Bake Off fans were gutted, as Lizzie left the baking tent for good on Tuesday night.

She became the latest contestant to be eliminated from the Channel 4 series, during a tough quarter-final.

With just five bakers left to compete, the latest three tasks were a tough call in some ways, while everyone appeared to slightly struggle for different reasons.

It got stressful for the bakers by the time it came to the showstoppers during Free From week, after creating bakes that were dairy free, gluten free and meat free.

From biscuits and vegan sausage rolls to gluten free cakes, the final five had their hands full as they tried to impress the judges.

But as the final bake came along, judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood shared their thoughts on who would be at risk.

Both Crystelle and Lizzie were at risk after the first two tasks, despite Jurgen dropping his bakes on the floor and then seemingly feeding them to the judges.

Prue said of Lizzie that she could "strangle her" as she believed she was determined "not to be neat" when it came to her treats.

She also said Crystelle could do with making neater bakes, calling her an "erratic" baker.

It all came down to the judgement after the showstoppers though, following over four hours of baking.

Crystelle based her cake on a dream dress of her nan's, making it for her, while Lizzie wanted to make something that represented her and "being different".

Discussing her special educational needs, and conditions including ADHD and dyslexia, Lizzie wanted to reflect who she was - and said the decor would represent her brain fog which she often experiences.

As the judges discussed the bakes, they complimented Crystelle's sponges, saying people would never know it was gluten free.

They didn't have a bad word to say about it, leaving her relieved and hopeful for her place on the show.

As Lizzie headed up to the judges with her cake, Prue said she'd never seen anything like it.

On taste, Prue said it needed buttercream to compliment the pineapple - while Paul said he'd eat the cake any day.

Later, the pair agreed that both bakers were neck-and-neck as they decided who should leave (Channel 4)

Prue praised Lizzie for the finesse with her cake, telling her "I knew you could do it!"

Later, the judges agreed that both bakers were neck-and-neck as they decided who should leave.

But ultimately it was Lizzie who was sent home, and Crystelle who was saved - while Lizzie said she was proud and happy to have made it so far.

The Great British Bake Off returns next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
