Bake Off's Giuseppe in tears as he receives first 'Hollywood handshake' in bread week

Giuseppe was moved to tears after becoming the lucky recipient of Paul Hollywood's first 'Hollywood handshake' of Bake Off 2021.

The signature challenge in bread week saw the contestants asked to make their version of the Italian bread.

Some chose to mix it up with some unusual flavours including Jurgen's kippers and boiled eggs.

Engineer Giuseppe used olives and olive oil imported from Italy and raised a few eyebrows by adding milk into his dough - but wowed the judges with the result.

Paul even demanded the recipe, telling him: "This is your recipe and you must give it to me."

Giuseppe was seen wiping his eyes afterwards, telling the cameras: "I got a little emotional in there because I never thought I would get one."

He added that he was expecting a "but" after Paul's praise - but instead the judge extended his hand to welcome him to the elite Bake Off handshake club.

Giuseppe, who hails from Italy but is now based in Bristol, then went on to excel in the technical challenge, which saw the bakers making another Italian bread - ciabatta.

"An Italian baking a ciabatta? Paul quipped. "Who would have thought it!"

Giuseppe was named star baker - and joked that he would enjoy it as he didn't expect it to happen again.

Roshika became the third baker to leave the tent but vowed to keep on baking.

She said: "It's come to an end but I have really really enjoyed it. I'm proud of where I've got to."
