There was a bizarre treat for Great British Bake Off fans on Tuesday night when the new series kicked off with an ode to Billy Ray Cyrus.
The country legend and Miley Cyrus' dad's biggest hit is Achy Breaky Heart and it was the early 90s guilty pleasure that judges Paul Hollywood and Pru Leith and hosts Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding took as their inspiration for a musical opening.
Kicked off by Paul, suitably dressed in stonewashed jeans and sporting a mullet, the Bake Off re-working of Achy Break Heart featured lines on everything from brownies to donuts and quiche to choux pastry.

Paul got right into the spirit of things as he launched into a chorus of 'Don't bake my tart, my flaky pastry tart," with viewers at home in hysterics at the very unexpected start to the new series.
One fan took to Twitter to post: "I’ve literally just had my appendix out and you’ve got me laughing & crying in pain at that opening scene!!" and another reacted: "This opening sequence will stay in my mind rent free forever! Great to have it back on."
A third tweeted: "That opening to Bake Off will stay with me for a very, very long time," but others weren't laughing and more cringing at what they were watching.
A far from impressed Channel 4 viewer commented: "Bake Off is awful. What the f*ck was that opening sequence?" and, in agreement, another rushed to Twitter to write: "Why did the bake off opening have to make my skin crawl?"
The Achy Breaky Heart pastiche had a lot to live up to after Matt Lucas' Boris Johnson skit got everyone talking at the start of the 2020 series.
