Bake Off hit with 115 Ofcom complaints from angry Channel 4 fans after Jurgen's axing

The Great British Bake Off fans were so unhappy about Jurgen being axed from the show that they complained to Ofcom.

The broadcasting watchdog has received 115 complaints from angry viewers of the Channel 4 show who feel it was unfair to send Jurgen home after he was named Star Baker three times.

He was kicked off the show in the semi-finals on November 16.

Complaints received by the media regulator are examined before a decision is made on whether or not to take action.

German baker Jurgen, 56, became a firm fan favourite after nine weeks of showing off his impressive baking skills.

He was named the top baker three times, leaving viewers baffled by his departure.

The popular show came to an end last night, with Giuseppe Dell’Anno crowned the winner by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Italian Giuseppe won them over with his stunning Mad Hatter's tea party themed bake, beating Chigs Parmar and Crystelle Pereira to the top prize.

Fans took to social media to congratulate the baker on his win.

"Giuseppe is truly an extraordinary baker! He’s been so consistent throughout most of the series #GBBO," one wrote.

Another added: "Well that was just the best #GBBO ever. Loved them all but Giuseppe had to win."

"A deserving winner indeed! Well done to Giuseppe! I just adore the #GBBO such happy TV," a third shared, with a fourth adding: "Giuseppe what a deserving winner! It meant so much to him, what an absolute gent. Delighted."

Before the final, Giuseppe had said that the Star Baker award he scooped one week helped him get through the tough times.

He said: "I certainly relaxed a little after the first Star Baker: I felt like I already got much more than I was hoping for, so I had nothing left to prove to myself.

"I was overwhelmed by emotions in both cases [when he got a famous Paul Hollywood handshake], in bread week and patisserie, but I must admit that getting recognition for a focaccia based on flavours and ingredients that were so closely linked to my family members and my own heritage was very powerful."
