Bake Off favourite Jürgen gains an advantage after show introduces first German week

Since the Great British Bake Off returned to our screens many fans have found themself rooting for German contestant Jürgen.

The keen trombonist has proved to be both well-liked in the tent and also a fantastic baker, having been awarded star baker in the first two episodes.

But Jürgen may have been handed an even bigger advantage after the judges revealed that this series will include the show's first-ever German week, reports The Mirror.

Themed weeks have long been a tradition on GBBO and this series will include a number of new ones, including a "free from " week.

Commenting on German Week, judge Paul Hollywood said: “We did a German week which is the other unusual one. And that was actually very good. Very good. They were classic bakes and it was fascinating.”

The recipes included in the week include a traditional German yeasted cake.

Jürgen, who is originally from the Black Forest in southwest Germany now lives with his wife, son and pet rabbit in Brighton.

He has proved an extremely talented baker in the tent and has been nicknamed The Baking Terminator by fellow contestant Guiseppe. He has also been called the "flavour king" by Paul.

He also left fans heartbroken when he rang his family after winning the first episode of the new season, only to be left hanging when no one answered.
