Bake Off fans swoon over 'perfect man' James McAvoy as he riffs with Matt Lucas

James McAvoy won a whole new army of fans within minutes of appearing on tonight's Great Celebrity Bake Off.

Scottish James is one of tonight's big names whipping up treats in the tent to raise money for Stand Up 2 Cancer, and even starred in the opening skit with host Matt Lucas.

Alongside Anne Marie, David Baddiel and Dame Kelly Holmes, James will be hoping to impress famously tough judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood.

"Oh my God, are you James McAvoy?" Matt says, walking into shot, "I'm such a big fan!"

James has even proved a hit with his fellow A-listers, lending David his extra pastry and making Matt crack up.

And fans have been swept up in his charms.

"I keep just going 'oooft' every time James is on screen #bakeoff," one enamoured viewer tweeted.

Another shared a string of heart eyes emojis and simply wrote: "Erm hello James McAvoy."

"James McAvoy baking cakes?! Get in my face," a fourth demanded.

"Swooning already," a fifth wrote within a minute of the show's opening.

Another could hardly contain themselves, tweeting: "JAMES MCAVOY!!! What a man!"

His skills proved considerable as well, when Paul described his meringue as "beautiful" and Prue as "absolutely delicious."

Next week's show will see Dizzee Rascal, Nick Grimshaw, Phillipa Perry and Reece Shearsmith in the tent.

Last week, meanwhile, saw X Factor champ Alexandra Burke, beating out Tom Allen, Rob Beckett and Daisy Ridley.

*The Great Celebrity Bake Off continues on Tuesday 23 March at 8pm on Channel 4.
