Bake Off fans think Paul Hollywood let slip 'star baker' during first challenge

Bake Off fans were left stunned after comedian Reece Shearsmith earned a Paul Hollywood handshake.

Tuesday's instalment of the cooking show saw four brand new celebrities take to the tent - and all for a good cause.

Reece joined the likes of rapper Dizzee Rascal, radio DJ Nick Grimshaw and psychotherapist Philippa Perry to give viewers ideas on how to fundraise in aid of Stand Up 2 Cancer.

The celebrities were tasked with making 12 decorated vegetable cake slices in the signature challenge.

And it was Reece's pumpkin slices that stole the show as they impressed Paul Hollywood so much that he awarded him with a Hollywood handshake.

Another said: "I just nearly cried at Bake Off seeing Reece get the handshake for his pumpkin patch cake!!!!"

"Yes a handshake you go @ReeceShearsmith #GBBO," said a third.

Show host Matt Lucas was as equally stunned by the gesture as he revealed Paul won't even shake his hand.

Matt exclaimed: "A handshake!" after the rest of the panel walked away.

"Did you see it?" asked Reece.

"I saw it. It really happened didn't it?" replied Matt.

Adding: "He won't even shake my hand when I say hello to him!"

Reece was crowned star baker after Paul said his showstopper was as good as any biscuit cake seen on the main series.
