Bake Off fans furious at 'criminal' elimination as they insist judges made wrong choice

Great British Bake Off viewers were seething after Tuesday's show as many insisted the wrong baker had gone home.

Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood ranked the bakers' creations in biscuit week, where the bakers were put through their paces and one skilled contestant was named star baker.

After Makbul Patel failed to impress with his Indian Chai tea service made of biscuit that Paul branded "flat and clumsy", he became the second baker to get the chop.

Meanwhile a delighted Dave Friday won star baker and Lottie Bedlow received a coveted "Hollywood handshake" from Paul.

"I went numb," she told host Noel Fielding.

"I'm never washing this hand again!"

But some fans were raging on Twitter following the result, arguing that Rowan Williams, who had underperformed two weeks in a row, should have been sent home instead of Mak.

Prue and Paul revealed during their deliberation that it was a close call between Mak and Rowan, who had consistently overpromised a creation that he did not manage to finish.

One viewer tweeted: "Absolute b******s #GBBO - how can Rowan still be left in?? FFS!!".

Another remarked: "Pffff wrong baker goes again... Rowan should have gone last week, the only reason they're keeping him in is cos he's a "character". Pah."

A third ranted: "can’t believe mak had to leave instead of rowan despite doing such a solid job in the technical... hmm... just admit you’re basing that decision solely on entertainment value & goI can't get my head around how they decided mak was the worst baker? did they forget about rowan or?? i love the guy but he was deffo worse".

But others were delighted, as one gushed: "cannot express my joy for the fact that rowan is through for another week he’s the nations sweetheart".

Meanwhile, Noel could not resist making a joke about Sura's knocking nightmare last week when she accidentally elbowed Dave's upside down cakes off his tray as he placed them down in front of the judges.

As the bakers placed their creations on the table this week, Noel warned: "Hang back, Sura!" as the rest of the tent giggled.
