Bake Off fans brutally compare Syabira's showstopper cake to a 'sleep paralysis demon'

Bake Off fans mourning the end of the latest seriesneed not fear, as they might see one of the showstopper cakes again - in their nightmares. After weeks of gruelling competition, Syabira Yusoff was crowned as the winner of the popular Channel 4 show on Tuesday night.

While the baker's clever flavour combinations got the judges talking, fans were fixated on a much creepier detail they spotted during the competition's final. Namely, Syabira's showstopper cake. Inspired by the theme "our beautiful planet", the baker created an edible sculpture depicting an orangutan trying to hold together its rainforest home.

Undoubtedly clever,. and a great display of Syabira's skill, the cake also reminded viewers of a much-scarier creature. One fan tweeted: "I really hope Syabira wins but this is my new sleep paralysis demon."

Dismayed to have spotted the resemblance, someone replied: "I’m laughing but now I know this will be mine too!! Damn your hilarious tweet."

Another said: "This orangutan will be in my nightmares tonight, sorry Syabira."

Meanwhile, a different viewer agreed: "Never have I seen such a creepy 'Orangutan'. Stuff of nightmares."

Elsewhere, someone tweeted: "I’m sorry but that doesn’t look anything like an orangutan nowhere near more like a monster."

Others thought the orangutan looked like "a mighty boosh cake."

Not all fans were left impressed by the final episode of the series, with many suggesting the creations paled in comparison to recent years.

Even Syabira's winning showstopper came under criticism, with judge Paul commenting: "It’s not the neatest thing I’ve seen, but your flavours are superb."

Sharing his sentiment online, several viewers thought the cake could be improved, though they agreed Syabira was a worthy winner. "Well deserved win. Even if the Orangutan looked s***," read one tweet.

Meanwhile, @DrOetkerBakes said: "No such thing as an ugly orangutan in our book, @SyabiraBakes Your showstopper still has us going oo oo oo and we love the message behind it!"

A third praised: "Orangutan cake! I love Syabira's imagination," and someone else thought: "That orangutan showstopper looks fab!"
