Bairnsdale murder accused withdrawing from ice, court told

A man has faced court charged with the murder of another man at Bairnsdale, in Victoria's east.

Police found the body of a 62-year-old man at a house in Wallace Street, Bairnsdale on Saturday, but police believe he could have been killed up to three days earlier.

On Monday night, Homicide Squad detectives charged Sean Adrian Marshall, 34, of no fixed address, with one count of murder.

He faced the Latrobe Valley Magistrates' Court on Tuesday via video-link from the Bairnsdale Magistrates' Court.

Mr Marshall sat slumped between two police officers with bruising to the right side of his face.

The court heard Mr Marshall is withdrawing from the drug ice and has requested a mental heath and psychological assessment.

He has been remanded in custody and will return to court in August.

Police also interviewed a 45-year-old Bairnsdale woman who has been released pending further inquiries.
