Bairn Banter organising fun outdoor activities for the Carsphairn community

The volunteer based group Bairn Banter recently came together with other members of the Glenkens community for a “Big Dig”.

It saw children, parents, grandparents and many other members of the public rolling up their sleeves to help revive the Carsphairn School playground’s raised bed and garden area.

The project received a huge support of donations of flowers, vegetable and fruit plants, seed potatoes, muck, compost and materials that will help the project to continue throughout the summer months. The fun project aims to promote ongoing outdoor learning experiences for children attending the free Bairn Banter sessions and encompassing the link between growing and harvesting some of the vegetables that have been grown by the children to help encourage healthy eating in the early years.

The children attending the Saturday session flourished in the outdoor play space of the Carsphairn School playground and enjoyed getting involved with the hunt for mini beasts and meeting some story book heroes such as Superworm.

Bairn Banter is planning a samba drumming session on Saturday, July 9 in Carsphairn School playground or Lagwyne Hall if the weather is wet. All ages welcome but children must be supervised by an adult.

Families can book a free space by emailing bairnbanter@outlook.com, sending a WhatsApp or text to 07979492791 or see Bairn Banter’s Facebook page.

The group was also present at Carsphairn Show at the start of June with a variety of fun outdoor activities for children of all ages.
