Bail plea of accused rejected

KANPUR: Additional sessions judge-XVI Jitendra Kumar Dwivedi on Wednesday rejected the bail applications of accused Abdul Rehman, son of builder Haji Wasi, who had been charged by the police under sections 147/148/149/307/323/332/333/336/353/427/504/506/120-B IPC and section 7 of the Criminal (Law) Amendment Act and section 3/4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984 in the Nai Sarak violence.

The bail applications moved by accused Abdul Rehman in the three cases were rejected by the court.

According to ADGC Dinesh Agarwal said that the defence counsels claimed that prosecution had so far not presented the CCTV footage before the court.

The court had already granted bail to co-accused Shankar Lal Ramani. As there was no criminal history of the accused and that he would not misuse the bail if it was granted to him, the defence pleaded.

According to special public prosecutor Pankaj Tripathi, accused Abdul Rehman had played a key role during the violence, had relations with D-2 gang and had funded Hashmi to disturb peace and terrorise the residents of Chandreshwar Hata with ulterior motive, therefore, his bail applications should be rejected, the prosecution urged the court.
