Prosecutors: Man arrested at rapper's house pulled trigger in 2009 killing

Nov. 08--A Chicago man was denied bail Friday after he was charged with a fatal shooting during the Fourth of July weekend in 2009, authorities said.

Devonshe Collier, 24, was arrested early Wednesday at the southwest suburban Orland Park home of rapper Durk Banks, who also was taken into custody and charged with weapons violations after two guns were found in the house.

Collier is charged with shooting to death Dominic Barnes, 21, in the 4700 block of Forrestville Avenue in the Bronzeville neighborhood on July 5, 2009, officials said.

In court Friday, prosecutors said Barnes was standing outside when Collier approached him and inquired about the Barnes' gang affiliation, prosecutors said.

When Barnes answered, Collier produced a gun and fired multiple times, striking and killing him, prosecutors said.

Collier and an unknown co-defendant then went through the Barnes' pocket and removed money before they fled in a waiting vehicle, proseuctors said.

Collier was identified by multiple witnesses as the person who fired the fatal shot. At least one witness also reported seeing Collier with a gun immediately after the shooting, prosecutors said.

He has a pending unlawful use a weapon case, from January of 2014, prosecutors said.

Barnes, of the 600 block of East 51st Street, died of multiple gunshot wounds at the scene, authorities said.

At the time, Chicago police said they were looking for "several people'' responsible for the shooting.
