A man charged with allegedly sexually abusing a young girl in the Hunter Region earlier this year will remain on bail, after he faced court on Tuesday.
The man, who cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the child, was arrested earlier this month and charged with two counts of intentionally sexually touching a child aged under 10 years old.
The 44-year-old Central Coast man was first granted strict conditional bail when he faced court soon after his arrest - and at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Tuesday, Magistrate Brett Shields continued that undertaking.
Investigators from Brisbane Water Police District and specialist detectives from the State Crime Command's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad arrested the man at Narara early on the morning of July 5 after reports that a child had allegedly been abused by a man who was known to her.
The charges came after an investigation began in June.
Police allege the man abused the five-year-old while he was staying at her family's home in the Port Stephens area in April this year.
The man did not formally lodge a plea to either charge in court on Tuesday.
Magistrate Shields adjourned the matter to Raymond Terrace Local Court for mention on September 14.
The brief of evidence is also expected to be served on the September court date.
