Bahlul Mustafazada invited for Celtic trial as Hoops set to run rule over Gabala defender

Celtic could be about to make a shock swoop for Azerbaijan defender Bahlul Mustafazada.

The Gabala defensive standout is a free agent at the end of the season after two years at the club and is set to leave.

And the Hoops have invited him for a summer trial with a view to signing the 22-year-old.

Mustafazada has been capped on ten occasions by Azerbaijan U21s and has been called up for the full squad as well.

He played in the Europa League this season against Rangers' conquerors Progres Nierderkorn, with the Luxembourg team winning 2-0.

The stopper is a product of his club's youth academy and was also loaned to local club Sumgayit last year.

But this season he's been first choice for Gabala in the Azerbaijani Premier League and has made 20 appearances for them.

Celtic are set to lose Dedryck Boyata to Hertha Berlin, while Filip Benkovic will return to Leicester City, leaving them light in central defence.

And Mustafazada could earn a contract if he impresses when Celtic return to pre-season training in the summer.
