Batting legend Don Bradman's 'baggy green' cap that he wore when India first toured Australia as an independent nation in 1947-48 has been sold for A$479,700 ($311,000).

Bradman had given the cap to India's team manager during the tour, Pankaj 'Peter' Gupta, and it was later passed on by Gupta to wicketkeeper PK Sen.
The cap was acquired by its former owner in 2003, and since 2010 it had been on loan to the Bradman Museum, situated in the legendary cricketer's hometown of Bowral.
The cricket memorabilia, which was expected to fetch between A$300,000 and A$400,000 at auction, was successfully purchased by an Australian buyer, according to Sydney-based auction house Bonhams.
The 'baggy green', which is faded and damaged by insects, is witness to 715 runs scored at a mind-blowing average of 178.75 by Bradman during the five-Test series that Australia won 4-0.
The series is also historic for the fact that it saw Bradman becoming the first player to complete 100 first-class centuries.
Bradman's remarkable batting average of 99.94 remains an unparalleled achievement in the sport's history, as he concluded his Test career in 1948 after 52 matches, scoring 6996 runs that included 29 hundreds and 13 fifties.
