CHICAGO _ A cell phone battery or charger exploded in a bag while the bag was being loaded onto a flight at Chicago's Midway International midday Monday, but there were no reports of injuries, police said.
Police were called to the airport just before 12:20 p.m. Monday after a bag exploded while being loaded onto a flight, said police spokeswoman Karie James.
The bag exploded while being loaded onto a flight at the airport, 5700 S. Cicero Avenue, James said in an email.
The "Bag was affected by a possible cell phone battery or battery charger," and the police bomb squad found nothing suspicious, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a tweet.
After the police bomb squad was called to the scene, it was being cleared as not dangerous by about 1 p.m.
Police said there was "no public safety threat" and "Airport operations are resuming" about 1 p.m.
