BAFTAs 2020: Emmerdale wins Best Soap after EastEnders snub

Emmerdale won Best Soap at the BAFTAs tonight as the first ever virtual ceremony this evening.

Casualty, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Holby City were all in the running tonight, but the ITV soap clinched it this year.

This comes after rival BBC soap EastEnders was shocking snubbed this year, despite wowing viewers with a hoard of intense storylines and its dramatic 35th anniversary special episodes.

This evening, the red carpet was replaced with the bog-standard carpet in celebrities' living rooms in the first virtual ceremony.

At the helm was host Richard Ayoade, who was clearly praying that everyone's internet connection would hold up.

Despite taking place at homes, celebrities certainly made the effort and glammed up in their glitziest outfits.

Only around six presenters were physically in the studio, with a pre-show starting on YouTube at 6pm.

The Inbetweeners and I'm A Celebrity star Emily Atack looked gorgeous as she posed up in her make up chair backstage.

Comedian Tom Allen was also on hand to help out backstage with his witty one-liners.
