Baftas 2019: Veteran actor Albert Finney among those honoured in emotional In Memoriam segment

The In Memoriam segment of the 2019 Baftas opened with a tribute to Albert Finney, who died only three days ago. 

The actor – best known for his roles in Annie, Murder on the Orient Express and Scrooge – died following a short illness at the age of 82, his family announced. 

He had been in the Royal Marsden hospital, just outside London, for the past month and died from a chest infection on Thursday (7 February) afternoon.

William Goldman, the author of Princess Bride and its film adaptation; comic book writer Stan Lee, pictured alongside his creation, Spider-Man; and Amadeus and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest director Miloš Forman were featured. 

Also included were actor Tab Hunter; Big director Penny Marshall; Superman actor Margot Kidder, and actor Smokey and the Bandit actor Burt Reynolds. 

The segment was accompanied by a performance by saxophonist Jess Gillam, who played “Theme from Love Story”
