Bafta-winning TV company that makes Netflix and Channel 4 shows ranks top three of Sunday Times Profit Track 100

A television production company that makes documentaries for Netflix, ITV and Channel 4 has ranked third in the Sunday Times Profit Track 100 table 2020.

Plimsoll Productions, which is headquartered in Bristol but also has offices in Cardiff and Los Angeles, came behind Solihull-based fitness retailer Gymshark at number one and Gateshead-based energy management consultancy Northern Gas and Power.

The business saw profits surge 116.12 per cent in the financial year ending August 2019 - up to to £7.3million - while also seeing sales grow to £37.2million, according to the league table.

Grant Mansfield, chief executive and founder of Plimsoll Productions, said: “At a challenging time for all businesses, this is welcome recognition for all the brilliant staff at Plimsoll who have helped to create and build an internationally renowned production company from scratch in little more than six years.

“It’s also a reflection of the creative credentials of Bristol, a city now well and truly on the map as a major media centre."

Plimsoll has won Bafta and Emmy Awards for its work and secured orders for more than 50 series, according to its website.

The business works for clients in the US, UK and Canada, and its extensive list of programmes includes Veganville , Hostile Planet, Wild Britain and Wales: Land of the Wild.

Last year the company secured a multi-million pound investment boost from LDC to support its ambitious growth plans.

The Sunday Times Profit Track 100 league table ranks Britain’s 100 private companies with the fastest-growing profits over the latest three years.

It is compiled by Fast Track and published as a supplement in the Sunday Times each April, with a national awards event in October and alumni dinners throughout the year.
